Risk and Rewards - Are You Playing Too Safe?
Today as always, leaders who recognize opportunities while managing associated risks are earning big rewards. Here are several leadership keys for effective risk-taking and decision making amidst ongoing global uncertainty.
Risk avoidance. While caution is understandable and sometimes prudent, it is risky to do little or nothing different at this time of great change. Are you playing it too safe? What would you do if you knew you would not fail?
Complacency. Taking risks can be difficult for leaders at the peak of their game. Are you comfortable with success or reluctant to keep getting better? Who may catch you if you lose your competitive edge?
Over-confidence. While confidence is essential in most endeavors, over-confidence distorts judgment and amplifies risk. Have you considered the odds for bets you are making? What is the best that could happen? What is most likely? Are you prepared to weather the next storm?
Although some leaders may seek greater security in these uncertain times, entrepreneurs who lean into risk and bet on a bright future are more likely to win big rewards!

London's $24B Elizabeth Line opens this week | Trains
Delayed by construction problems and the pandemic, London’s new high-tech, east-west rail line, opened to passengers this week. The 19 billion-pound ($23 billion) railway, named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, involved digging 26 miles (42 kilometers) of new tunnels under Europe’s biggest city. The Elizabeth Line will provide a speedy new link between Heathrow Airport west of London, the City financial district in the center and the Canary Wharf business hub in the east.
